Q:What are the zone’s SOA settings?![]() |
A:SOA settings are set at: Refresh: 10001 Retry: 7200 Expire: 2419200 Default TTL: 86400 Currently there is a bug where some zones are being set to a TTL of 0, however all individual records have a TTL of 300 (5 minutes) and this takes precedence over the SOA setting. The domains will continue to resolve normally. |
![]() |
Q:Can the SOA settings be modified?![]() |
A:No. SOA settings are not editable. |
![]() |
Q:What is the supported DNS public manage URL?![]() |
A:This must first be setup by the Reseller before end users can use the public MDNS interface. Please configure this in the RWI2 under the Settings tab. After you configure it in the RWI2, the resulting URL will be http://brand.managednsservice.com |

Q:What is the limit to the number of zone records?![]() |
A:There is no zone limit record limitations implemented that would be reasonably exceeded. |

Q:What is the limit to the number of sub-domain forwards that can be added? ![]() |
A:There is no sub-domain forward limitations implemented that would be reasonably exceeded. |
![]() |
Q:What functions are available via the API?![]() |
A:All management and provisioning functionality is available via the API. |
![]() |
Q:Which zone records are retrieved when a zone retrieve is executed?![]() |
A:There is an attempt to retrieve A, MX and CNAME and NS (excluding the NS record for the domain itself) records. The standard prefixes that we attempt to retrieve include: www, ftp, pop, pop3, smtp, imap. However, the Reseller may define extra prefixes they would like to retrieve via the API. |
![]() |
Q:When are the default zone permissions a Reseller can set used?![]() |
A:These default permissions are applied to the zone at time of purchase. This is not a bulk change function. Permissions that are applied at time of purchase will continue to apply until changed for that individual zone. |

Q:Are there any tld limitations with the Managed DNS Service based on our technology?![]() |
A:No. |
![]() |
Q:Will Managed DNS work with .DE domains?![]() |
A:No, there appears to be some issues here. However, we have modified our SOA settings since this was found so it may be resolved. It would seem that the .DE registry refuses to use our namesevers (ns*.mdnsservice.com) as primary or secondary due to the fact that out defaults for SOA record do not match their requirements. The issue is as follows: ns1.mdnsservice.com.: SOA value expire (86400) does not fit in range[604800 ... 3600000]. ns1.mdnsservice.com.: SOA value retry (86400) does not fit in range [1800 ... 28800]. |

Q:Can a subdomain forward be added when domain forwarding is set?![]() |
A:Yes, a subdomain forward can be added and will work independent of the domain forward setting. However, subdomain forwarding can never be added for the primary domain (e.g., domain.tld) as the page for this URL is already set to point to one of the domain forwarding options (e.g., an address, domain for sale, domain under construction or display nothing template.) |
![]() |
Q:How can the Reseller or end user view the domain forwarding templates?![]() |
A:The templates for Domain For Sale, Domain Under Construction and Do Nothing are showing the Managed DNS User Guide that is posted in the Reseller Resource Center. Alternatively, they can make the option live and view it on their site. Currently, there is no preview option in the Reseller Web Interface or the DNS Public Management Interface. |
![]() |
Q:Can the user point a subdomain to the Managed DNS IP for Domain for Sale, Under Construction or other templates?![]() |
A:No. Setting the A record to point to the IP we use for these templates is not sufficient for our software to display the domain for sale page, domain under construction or other templates. Setting a domain to the domain for sale, domain under construction or other templates for the subdomain is supported via API, however this functionality is not exposed via our default interface. |
![]() |
Q:Can private IPs be set?![]() |
A:A records may contain any valid IPV4 IP address. |
![]() |
Q:Is IPV6 supported? ![]() |
A:No. IPV6 is currently not supported. |
![]() |
Q:Can forwarding be forwarded to an asp page?![]() |
A:Forwarding can be forwarded to any valid URL. |
![]() |
Q:Wildcards can be entered for subdomain forwarding - if I enter another subdomain forward (e.g., help.domainname.com) will it still work or with the wildcard be taken for all?![]() |
A:No. Wildcards are not supported for subdomain forwarding. However, there is a BUG as wildcards can be added to a subdomain. Development is investigating this. |
![]() |
Q:What is the logic behind the order that zones are listed in on the DNS public manage interface?![]() |
A:There is no sorting criterion for the way zones are sorted currently. This will be enhanced in a future release. Fortunately very few end users will have more than 20 zones, so they won’t have to look at multiple pages. |
![]() |
Q:Is there anyway to do a forced unsuspension in the case of non-payment?![]() |
A:The only way to unsuspend product is to reactivate the zone, which requires having sufficient funds. |
![]() |
Q:Is there support for multi-lingual domain names?![]() |
A:Any plain ASCII zone name is supported no special care is provided for multi-lingual domain names on any of the web interfaces. |
![]() |
Q:Is our service a BIND based solution?![]() |
A:No. BIND DNS software is not used with the Managed DNS Service. Database based DNS software is used. |
![]() |
Q:Is canceling a service available as part of the API for monthly billing?![]() |
A:Yes. See delete inventory item command. |
![]() |
Q:How do I configure webmail DNS on domains that use managed DNS?![]() |
A:When using the managed DNS Zone configuration, you have to set a CNAME (Alias) for mail.domain.com to mail.domain.com.emailmx.com. |
