Q:How do I enable my Reseller account for the live system?![]()
A:Once you have signed a contract and established an account balance with OpenSRS, you can begin registering domains right away.

Q:What is the difference between the 3 subsystems?![]()
A:The Test Environment is the first subsystem that new resellers have access to. The test environment is used by existing resellers for testing purposes (ex: new scripts, new tlds that become available etc). The Live Environment is where all the day to day activity occurs. The Live Environment is used to register, renew, transfer and manage your reseller account with us. The Batch system is used by resellers who are running automated scripts to perform certain tasks. For example, attempting to register names that are about to be deleted or running certain reports that might cause heavy load on the live system.

Q:What do I change to go live using the production environment Quickstart Web Interface?![]()
A:The test environment Quickstart interface is at: http://horizon.opensrs.net/resellers/ The production environment ("live") Quickstart interface is at: http://resellers.opensrs.net/ Your username/password should be the same one you had on the test system. Full Access live customers who use the client scripts also have access to the Web interface. You can also continue to use your test environment account (this is recommended for testing new modifications of your scripts).

Q:What do I change to go live with my server and the OpenSRS client software scripts?![]()
A:To go live with your server and OpenSRS client software, you need to edit the OpenSRS.conf file and set the two server entries from "horizon.opensrs.net" to "rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net". That's a numeral one, not a letter ell. You also need to regenerate your private key with the live Web interface at: http://resellers.opensrs.net/ Select "Generate New Private Key". Do a copy-and-paste of this private key into your the PRIVATE_KEY field of your OpenSRS.conf file. There can't be any spaces or line wraps in the key.

Q:Can I still use the test environment after I go "live"?![]()
A:Yes, you are encouraged to test your modified scripts on our test server before going "live" with them. What I normally do is have two configuration files on hand - one called live.conf, the other test.conf. Whenever I need to switch systems, I just copy the appropriate file onto OpenSRS.conf. Alternately, you can have two systems running with a copy of each file - one for live customers, one for your own testing and development. Just remember that each system has it's own server, interface, security model (and hence Crypt key), and data sets (identical data model, different data population).

Q:I just went live with the OpenSRS client software, regenerated my private key, and yet I can't successfully connect with the verify_install.cgi script.![]()
A:Here are some common issues which might cause you to be unable to authenticate with our production OpenSRS server (rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net): * Have you regenerated your private key on the production environment Web interface? Go to: http://resellers.opensrs.net/ Select "Regenerate Private Key". * You need to do a copy-and-paste of this alphanumeric string into your OpenSRS.conf file. After you did the copy-and-paste, did you make sure there were no leading or trailing spaces within the quotation marks? :-) * Did you define the correct IP address of your server to us? Is this IP the "real" IP of your server (and not a virtual host's IP) This is often the gateway IP of a multi-interfaced host. A server may answer to many IPs, but it usually makes outbound connections as one IP. If you can browse the Web from your server, you can find your IP address using an online script by Lawrence Goetz (this works with Lynx too): http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/ipinfo/ * Are there port restrictions on your server, or on your firewall? Versions 2.2 and above use port 55000. Older versions of the client scripts require access to ports 50000 and 51000.

Q:Is there a way to perform bulk orders using the reg_system.cgi script?![]()
A:Yes: [batch transfers supported in v.2.0.3 and higher] Please be aware that some TLDs can't be handled in this way. Please contact support@opensrs.org if you wish to transfer one of these TLDs. Look through the code in reg_system.cgi and the required reading list for more details on passing commands to the scripts.

Q:How do I access the Live Environment?![]()
A:The Live Environment can be accessed via http at http://resellers.opensrs.net. If you are using the API to connect please set the server hostname to rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net
![]() | |
Q:What is the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for the Live system?![]()
A:The Acceptable Use Policy for the Live Environment is 5 Simultaneous connections and 5 commands per Second
![]() | |
Q:Why am I receiving Invalid Nameserver errors?![]()
A:Although a name server may be valid for the Live Environment, it might not be registered in the Test Environment. To avoid these errors please be sure to use default.opensrs.org and default2.opensrs.org as the name servers when registering and managing domains in the Test Environment.
![]() | |
Q:What is the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for the Batch system?![]()
A:There are currently no numerical rate limits as to how often or how many connections a reseller can make to the batch pool. However this system is monitored for performance as well all API rate limits are enforced in the same manner as the LIVE system at the application level. If an IP and its related process requests, causes the system to suffer performance issues that negatively affect all batch users, then the offending IP will be blocked for a period of 24 hours and automatically reinstated the next business day.

Q:I believe I might have been blocked from the Batch system, what can I do?![]()
A:If you suspect that your IP address has been blacklisted please contact your account manager for assistance. If you are unsure of who your account manager is please send an email to our Sales Department at sales@opensrs.org

Q:How do I access the Batch system?![]()
A:The batch system can be accessed via http at https://batch.opensrs.net/resellers/ or via the API at 'batch.opensrs.net'

Q:How do I access the Live Environment?![]()
A:The Live Environment can be accessed via http at http://resellers.opensrs.net. If you are using the API to connect please set the server hostname to rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net

Q:What is the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for the Live system?![]()
A:The Web interface is intended exclusively for the following purposes: manually registering domains (one at a time); administering previously registered domains; viewing transaction records; unpending domains to be processed. These are some of the actions that will not be tolerated via the web interface, or the API (including, but not limited to): * Utilizing a script to connect to the Web interface (that's the purpose of the OpenSRS client software scripts) * Multiple attempts to register taken or "on hold" domains (via scripting or manually attempting to unpend domains that are already taken) * Multiple attempts to query or post identical requests to the Web interface server (Please wait for our server to respond). * Processing commands in excess of 3 transactions per second, repetitive or otherwise. Our services are not meant for individuals or companies attempting to register in a repetitive manner potentially available domains, domains that are on hold, or domains that may be available soon. As a general rule, requesting a name more than once every 5 minutes is considered abuse
