Q:What is WHOIS Privacy and how does it work?

A:WHOIS Privacy is a service provided by OpenSRS that Service Providers may add to their product line.
Once a WHOIS Privacy is authorized by the Admin Contact, OpenSRS will update the public WHOIS Database information with generic information. Communication to the domain’s contacts can be made via http://www.contactprivacy.com.

Q:Can I display my own unique info instead of "contactprivacy.com"?

A:No, the default contact info must be exactly as shown in order to satisfy ICANN regulations and to make sure that the public has the information they require to contact the Domain Owner if necessary.

Q:How do I turn privacy off for a domain?

A:View the domain in question in the Reseller Web Interface and select “disable” from the WHOIS Privacy section of “View Domain”.

Q:WHOIS Privacy was purchased but the domain’s real information is still showing

A:Most likely, the Registrant did not authorize the purchase by following the instructions that OpenSRS sent to the admin contact email address. The admin contact has 10 days to authorize the service. If no authorization occurs, WHOIS Privacy is not enabled and any funds on hold from the Service Provider’s account are returned.

WHOIS Privacy orders that are in “pending” status indicate that the admin contact has not yet authorized the purchase.

Q:WHOIS Privacy was authorized and paid for, but the domain’s real information is showing.

A:The Registrant is able to disable privacy via the Manage Web Interface. This is their decision and billing will continue, as the service is still active.

Q:Why was WHOIS Privacy suspended for one of my domains?

A:OpenSRS will suspend a domain’s WHOIS Privacy if a breach of the service agreement occurs.
The domain’s notes will indicate the reason for this decision.
