Q:How do I transfer .DE domains?![]()
A:DENIC is the registry for .de domains, and DENIC’s transfer policy states that transfers must be initiated by the gaining Registrar. In addition, the Registrar must receive, via fax, a written authorization of the transfer request from the domain’s Registrant (or admin contact). This authorization must be kept on record in case the Registry requests it in the case of a dispute. Therefore, gaining OpenSRS Resellers should initiate transfer requests and maintain a record of written Registrant confirmations. Unlike .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, .NAME, .MOBI, and .US which have a sixty (60) day post-registration transfer-hold restriction for Registrar to Registrar transfers, .DE transfers in and out are not restricted to any type of hold period. This means that a transfer can be performed at any time after a domain is registered. Finally, as the Registry does not hold expiry dates (domains are renewed monthly), Registrants who transfer a registration lose any remaining time on the current registration. In order to minimize any lost time for the Registrant, OpenSRS has imposed a min/max one (1) year registration term. Note: Currently, all transfer requests for .DE are only supported through the RWI.

Q:How do I activate a .DE domain?![]()
A:DENIC requires zone files to be set up on the DNS servers before the domain is registered. If DNS is not set up, DENIC will not activate the domain name upon registration and will wait for the zone files to be created. Once the zone files have been created in the DNS servers, you can ask DENIC to verify the DNS entries again in one of two ways: In the Reseller Web Interface under .DE Orders, click View .de domains waiting for activation (dns) In the Manage Domain Interface under Domain Extras

Q:Are there any special requirements for registering a .DE domain?![]()
A:Yes. In order to register a .DE domain, you must have a presence in Germany, as well as functioning name servers. Local Presence required: The registrant or the person named as the administrative contact person for the .DE domain must reside in Germany. The registry validates this requirement at the time of registration application and, if not fulfilled, the registration will fail. Active Name Servers Required: The two required name servers that are authoritative for the domain name must be active at the time of registration and on different subnets to avoid a single point of failure. The registry operator makes this determination by reviewing the IP addresses of the nameservers. If the address differs in one of the first three octets, then the nameservers are deemed to be on different subnets. If they are not on different subnets, the order completes; however, there is a 30-day window in which you must update your name servers. If this is not done, the registry deletes the domain name, and refunds are not given. The nameservers associated with the domain name at the time of the order can be changed during the 30-day window. NOTE: If a name is submitted without two authoritative, active namservers, an automated email is sent by the OpenSRS system to the registrant informing them of the need for authoritative, active nameservers, the timeline to fulfill this requirement and how to inform the system that the nameservers are now active.

Q:My client got an email about a problem with my .DE registration. What do I do?![]()
A:This happens when the Name Servers listed for the domain name are either not authoritative for the domain name or the Name Servers are not on different subnets (Two subnets differ from each other if at least one of the first 3 segments of the IP address is different). The .DE registry requires this to be corrected within 30 days or they cancel the registration with no refund given. If the Name Servers are correct, you need to create a Zone file for your client's domain name on the name servers listed. Once this has been done your client needs to log into your Resellers Manage Interface or https://manage.opensrs.net interface and have the registry re-validate the domain (under "Domain Extras"). Otherwise your client can change the name servers via the "Manage Name Servers" section of the Manage Interface.

Q:What is a .DE domain?![]()
A:.DE is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Germany. This registry has only minimal rules concerning local presence and nameservers. The Registrant OR the Administrative Contact must reside in Germany and the two nameservers associated with the registration must be authoritative, active and on different subnets to avoid a single point of failure.

Q:How can I send out a domain username/password? ![]()
A:RSPs have the ability to send out the domain username/password to the listed Admin Email contact. In the "Domain Management" section of the Resellers web page, find the domain in question. You can use either the "View Domain" or "Search Domains" link. The link to send the login/password is at the very bottom of the Domain info. It also shows you the address that it will be sent to. ca domains will also have a link to send the CIRA password. Only domain owners have access to this info. Since this is the only way to recover a lost password, please make sure the Admin Email is kept up-to-date. If the admin contact email address is no longer valid, the listed domain owner must send us a signed fax on company letterhead, if possible, requesting that the address be updated. In the fax be sure that they include a copy of their government issued photo ID (Drivers License, Passport etc), the domain name and the new admin contact email address. Please have them fax it to 1-416-531-2516 ATTN: OpenSRS Support For the registrants convience, we have created a pre-made PDF form that can be used as a template. You can find the form at http://rrc.tucows.com/resources/docs/adminemailchange.pdf
