Q:How can I place orders via the client code with the new language settings?

A:OpenSRS provides unsupported code that can be placed into the existing client code to facilitate the new language settings.

Q:Can I transfer a .org IDN to OpenSRS?

A:The registry will support transfers of German .ORG IDN domain names as of March 16, 2005.

Q:Can I Register, Transfer, Renew, or Manage a .de IDN?

A:All aspects of functionality are supported by OpenSRS.

Q:Is it possible to register IDN domains within the .DE TLD?

A:Yes, IDN registrations are now supported by OpenSRS for the .DE TLD.

Q:Can I register a .INFO or .BIZ IDN domain?

A:Yes, currently, we support .BIZ IDN registrations with Chinese, Danish, German, Icelandic, Japanese, Norwegian, Swedish, and Spanish; Castilian language tags.

We support .INFO IDN registrations with Danish, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Korean (Hangul), Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, and Swedish language tags.

Q:Can I renew a .ORG IDN?

A:Currently, the registry supports renewals of .ORG IDN domains registered with German, Danish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Swedish, and Spanish; Castilian language tags.

Q:Can I register a .ORG IDN?

A:We currently support .ORG IDN registrations with German, Danish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Swedish, and Spanish; Castilian language tags.

Q:How can I register Punycode domains via the client code?

A:We have released a version of the Client Code with IDN support. This Client Code can be found in the RRC at:

https://rrc.tucows.com/wholesale_services/domain_names/com-net/index_html.

Q:What if my domain name combines languages?

A:Domain names can only be associated with one language. If a domain name combines languages, you must select the most appropriate language.

Q:What is the cost of .DE IDN Registrations?

A:.de IDN Registrations inherit the cost of their parent TLD, therefore a .DE IDN costs the same as a ASCII .DE domain name.

For a full list of pricing visit the RRC at http://rrc.tucows.com, and click the Pricing link on the left hand side.

Q:Is there any restrictions on characters for .DE IDNs?

A:The "strasse" character (ß) is not supported due to constraints of the Punnycode system. The strasse converts to ss in punycode. Therefore, straße.de and strasse.de would essentially be the same name.

Q:What is IDN?

A:IDN stands for Internationalized Domain Names. IDNs are basically domain names that are written in their native non-English character set. IDNs are also referred to as "Multilingual domains" from time to time, however IDN is the proper term.

Q:Can I use the client code to register IDN domains on non-unix platforms?

A:Yes, the client code has been developed to be platform independent. Once you have the client code installed and working, it should support IDN registrations seamlessly.

Q:What is language of domain name?

A:Each Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) must be associated with a specific language per guidelines developed by the ICANN Registry Implementation Committee (RIC). This information is called a "language tag". The language tag is used to identify the language of the IDN.

For example, if you are registering the IDN "日本語.com", you would select "Japanese" as the language because the IDN is in the Japanese language. The user selects the most appropriate language tag for the IDN during the registration process.

Q:Can I change the language of my domain name later?

A:The language must be selected during the registration process. Once the registration is completed, the language cannot be changed. This feature will be released in a future core software deployment.

Q:Why do I need to select a language?

A:Domain names must be associated with a specific language so that appropriate language rules can be applied to the domain name, if necessary. The language rules are designed to prevent the registration of domain names that could potentially confuse end users.

At this time, only a small number of languages have language rules, including Chinese and Japanese. We are collecting the language tag information now so that it will be available should other languages develop language rules in the future.

Q:How does a language tag impact a registration?

A:When a language tag is received it is checked against a list of languages that have character inclusion tables or character variant mapping tables. These tables are applied to the Unicode code points that make up a registration and determine whether the registration is valid for a specific language.

Q:If a registration fails for a specific language, does that mean that it is unavailable for all languages?

A:No. Different characters are available for different language tags.

Q:Can I login to MWI during the conversion period with a RACE-encoded domain name (bq--*.com)?

A:No. All logins must use the new migrated xn--* format.

Q:Can I login to MWI using with native characters?

A:Native character login will not be supported. All manage logins must use the Punycode migrated name (eg. xn--*.com), along with the regular user name and password for each domain name.

Q:Will a domain experience any downtime during the conversion process?

A:No, there will be no downtime for any IDNs during the conversion process.
