Q:What is the grace period for expired .ORG domain names?

A:OpenSRS will hold an expired .ORG domain for 40 days after its expiry date. On the 40th day it enters into the Redemption Period during which the Registrant can still redeem their domain; however, the cost is higher than a simple renewal.

The Redemption Period lasts for 30 days after which the domain may be dropped and made available to the general public.

Q:What is an auth code?

A:A transfer authorization code (auth code) is required when transferring any .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, .US, .NAME and .CN domain name from one registrar to another. The transfer authorization code is created at the time of registration and can be obtained from the current registrar for the domain.

The auth code can be found in the "Domain Extra's" section of the Manage Interface - https://manage.opensrs.net

Resellers can also email the auth code to the admin contact email address listed for the domain. Simply log into the Resellers Web Interface, enter the domain into the "View Domain" field and click on the Query button. On the next page you'll find a link to send out the information.

Q:What format does the auth code need to be in?

A:The transfer authorization code (auth code) must be between 6 and 32 characters.

Q:Can I renew locked .INFO and .ORG domains?

A:The .INFO and .ORG registries do not permit renewals on locked domain names. You will have to unlock the domain, renew it and then relock it.

Q:Why is my domain "inactive"?

A:All EPP based registries (org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn) require that at least 2 name servers must listed for a domain name at all times. If there is only one name server listed the registry will place the domain into an "inactive" state and it will cease to work.

Q:What format does the phone and fax number have to be in?

A:All EPP based registries (org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn) use the international phone number format:

+CCC.NNNNNNNNNNNNxEEEE

Where C = the country dial code, N is up to twelve digits of the phone number, and E is the extension. The x character is ONLY required if an extension is specified. For Tucows, this would be +1.4165350123 (where 1 is the dial code for Canada)

Q:How can I send out a domain username/password?

A:RSPs have the ability to send out the domain username/password to the listed Admin Email contact. In the "Domain Management" section of the Resellers web page, find the domain in question.

You can use either the "View Domain" or "Search Domains" link.

The link to send the login/password is at the very bottom of the Domain info. It also shows you the address that it will be sent to. ca domains will also have a link to send the CIRA password.

Only domain owners have access to this info. Since this is the only way to recover a lost password, please make sure the Admin Email is kept up-to-date.

If the admin contact email address is no longer valid, the listed domain owner must send us a signed fax on company letterhead, if possible, requesting that the address be updated. In the fax be sure that they include a copy of their government issued photo ID (Drivers License, Passport etc), the domain name and the new admin contact email address. Please have them fax it to 1-416-531-2516 ATTN: OpenSRS Support

For the registrants convience, we have created a pre-made PDF form that can be used as a template. You can find the form at http://rrc.tucows.com/resources/docs/adminemailchange.pdf

Q:What does "PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE" mean?

A:This means that the domain name in question is in the Redemption Grace Period.

Q:What does "unable to verify existence of nameserver" mean?

A:Some registries such as .us, .info, .biz, .name, .org and .cc maintain their own databases of registered, valid name servers, rather then going by the VeriSign .COM/.NET Registry database.

If you are receiving "unable to verify existance of name server" error messages, it's likely due to the name server not being found in their database.

You can add your name servers to the various registries through the "Add Nameserver to All Foreign Registries " link in the resellers interface. Once added, you should be able to process your registrations.

Q:What is an .ORG domain?

A:The .ORG domain space was originally intended for use by non-commerical organizations but is now open to everyone.

Q:Who runs the .ORG registry?

A:The .ORG registry is run by The Public Interest Registry. Their website can be found at http://www.pir.org.

.ORG is an EPP-based Registry and their authorative whois database can be found at http://www.pir.org/whois_search/

Q:How do I renew a locked .ORG domain?

A:The .ORG registry does not permit renewals on locked .ORG domain names. If you wish to renew a locked .ORG domain name you must first unlock it, process the renewal and then relock it.
