Q:What is the grace period for .BIZ domains?

A:OpenSRS will hold an .biz domain for 40 days after the expiry date. After that, there is a 30 day redemption period, where the domain may be redeemed at the registry level for a fee. It will then take the .BIZ registry 1 to 7 days to delete it from their system and make it available to the general public.

Q:Are there any reserved .BIZ domain names?

A:Yes, the following names shall be reserved at the second level and at all other levels within the TLD at which Registry Operator makes registrations: ICANN:

icann
internic

B. Additional Second-Level Reservations. In addition, the following names shall be reserved
at the second level:

All single-character labels.
All two-character labels shall be initially reserved.
The reservation of a two-character label string shall be released to the extent that the Registry
Operator reaches agreement with the government and country-code manager, or the ISO 3166
maintenance agency, whichever appropriate. The Registry Operator may also propose release of
these reservations based on its implementation of measures to avoid confusion with the
corresponding country codes.

Q:What is an auth code?

A:A transfer authorization code (auth code) is required when transferring any .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, .US, .NAME and .CN domain name from one registrar to another. The transfer authorization code is created at the time of registration and can be obtained from the current registrar for the domain.

The auth code can be found in the "Domain Extra's" section of the Manage Interface - https://manage.opensrs.net

Resellers can also email the auth code to the admin contact email address listed for the domain. Simply log into the Resellers Web Interface, enter the domain into the "View Domain" field and click on the Query button. On the next page you'll find a link to send out the information.

Q:What format does the auth code need to be in?

A:The transfer authorization code (auth code) must be between 6 and 32 characters.

Q:What are some of the restrictions/requirements for .BIZ?

A:- All domains must be registered from 1 to 10 year periods.

- The phone and fax numbers must be in the international format: +CCC.NNNNNNNNNNNNxEEEE
Where C = the country dial code, N is up to twelve digits of the phone number, and E is the
extension. The x character is ONLY required if an extension is specified. An example of this would be
+1.4165350123 (where 1 is the dial code for Canada/United States)

- A transfer authorization code is required when transferring .info domain names from one registrar to another.

- Maximum contact information field lengths of 30 characters (excluding email address field)

- .BIZ domain names can only contain letters, numbers or hyphens.

- .BIZ domain names cannot begin or end with a hyphen.

- Minimum of 3 / maximum of 63 characters allowed.

Q:How do I register a .BIZ domain?

A:In the "Place Order Manually" field in the RWI, enter the domain name, (including ".BIZ"), and click New Order. Complete and submit the New Domain Registration Form. Domains can be registered for 1-10 year periods.

Q:Are there any restrictions on the .BIZ TLD?

A:Yes, for purposes of the .biz registration restrictions, “bona fide business or commercial use” shall mean the use or intent to use the domain name or any content, software, materials, graphics or other information thereon, to permit Internet users to access one or more host computers through the DNS for the exchange of goods, services or property of any kind; or to facilitate the exchange of goods, services, information or property of any kind.

Registering a domain name solely for the purposes of selling, trading or leasing the domain name for compensation; or the unsolicited offering to sell, trade or lease the domain name for compensation shall not constitute a "bona fide business or commercial use" of that domain name.

For illustration purposes, the following shall not constitute a “bona fide business or commercial use” of a domain name:

Using or intending to use the domain name exclusively for personal, noncommercial purposes; or using or intending to use the domain name exclusively for the expression of noncommercial ideas (i.e., registering abcsucks.biz exclusively to criticize or otherwise express an opinion on the products or services of ABC company, with no other intended business or commercial purpose).

Q:Why is my domain "inactive"?

A:All EPP based registries (org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn) require that at least 2 name servers must listed for a domain name at all times. If there is only one name server listed the registry will place the domain into an "inactive" state and it will cease to work.

Q:What format does the phone and fax number have to be in?

A:All EPP based registries (org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn) use the international phone number format:

+CCC.NNNNNNNNNNNNxEEEE

Where C = the country dial code, N is up to twelve digits of the phone number, and E is the extension. The x character is ONLY required if an extension is specified. For Tucows, this would be +1.4165350123 (where 1 is the dial code for Canada)

Q:How can I send out a domain username/password?

A:RSPs have the ability to send out the domain username/password to the listed Admin Email contact. In the "Domain Management" section of the Resellers web page, find the domain in question.

You can use either the "View Domain" or "Search Domains" link.

The link to send the login/password is at the very bottom of the Domain info. It also shows you the address that it will be sent to. ca domains will also have a link to send the CIRA password.

Only domain owners have access to this info. Since this is the only way to recover a lost password, please make sure the Admin Email is kept up-to-date.

If the admin contact email address is no longer valid, the listed domain owner must send us a signed fax on company letterhead, if possible, requesting that the address be updated. In the fax be sure that they include a copy of their government issued photo ID (Drivers License, Passport etc), the domain name and the new admin contact email address. Please have them fax it to 1-416-531-2516 ATTN: OpenSRS Support

For the registrants convience, we have created a pre-made PDF form that can be used as a template. You can find the form at http://rrc.tucows.com/resources/docs/adminemailchange.pdf

Q:How do I renew a BIZ domain

A:Select "Place Order Manually" from the RWI and place the domain name in the "Retrieve Order Information" section (if the username and password is remembered. If the username and password are not available, complete the form as if it was a new registration. Domains can be renewed for 1-5 year periods.

Alternatively, domains can be set to auto-renew when registered. To do this, simply select YES in the appropriate auto renew field.

Q:What does "PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE" mean?

A:This means that the domain name in question is in the Redemption Grace Period.

Q:What does "unable to verify existence of nameserver" mean?

A:Some registries such as .us, .info, .biz, .name, .org and .cc maintain their own databases of registered, valid name servers, rather then going by the VeriSign .COM/.NET Registry database.

If you are receiving "unable to verify existance of name server" error messages, it's likely due to the name server not being found in their database.

You can add your name servers to the various registries through the "Add Nameserver to All Foreign Registries " link in the resellers interface. Once added, you should be able to process your registrations.

Q:What is a .biz domain?

A:The .BIZ domain space is restricted to bona fide businesses or commercial use.

Q:Who runs the .BIZ registry?

A:The .BIZ registry is run by Neulevel. Their website can be found at http://www.neulevel.biz

.BIZ is an EPP-based Registry and their authorative whois database can be found at http://www.whois.biz/

Q:Why does my contact information not change during the course of a transfer?

A:All EPP based registries (org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn) will not allow contact information to be changed during the course of a transfer.
