Q:Can you delete domains accidentally registered on the production server?![]()
A:We can delete domains on the root server, but the registry charges us for that action. Please contact sales@tucows.com to make this request with your account manager. Resellers can delete domains themselves via the "Domain Refunds" section in the Resellers Web Interface (RWI). Deletions must be requested within the deletion grace period provided by the appropriate registry. This grace period varies as follows: .UK - 2 days from the domain's creation .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO, .US - 5 days from the domain's creation NOTE: .CA domains cannot be refunded through the RWI; however, .CA domains may be refundable during the first 5 days of creation. Please contact reseller-support@opensrs.org for details. Please note that there is a $1 processing fee for each deletion.

Q:How do I create or modify a nameserver host record, sometimes called a Glue Record? ie: ns1.mydomain.com ![]()
A:Domain Name Server creation/modification is handled by the owner of the root domain. The nameserver may also have to be added to the foreign registries by the Reseller via "Add Nameserver to All Foreign Registries". On the Manage Interface, https://manage.opensrs.net, in the Name Server section, click on the link at the bottom of the page. "If you want to create or modify a nameserver which is based on To create a new nameserver, add the DNS prefix (ns1, dns2, etc.) and the IP address, then click Create Name Server. The new name server will appear in the list above. Important: In some registries, IPs must be unique. If the IP is already in use, it can't be used to create another nameserver. Also, the actual DNS server must be up and running and given enough time to propagate. DNS can also be modified in this section. You can change both the Name and the IP address. Any changes made here are applied to all domains using the nameserver. DNS with no prefix as well as the 'www' prefix should be avoided as they tend to cause confusion. DNS can only be deleted if no Domains are using them. The Delete button will not appear if the DNS is in use. Our system can only check for OpenSRS domains. If you try to remove a DNS that is in use by another domain at another registrar, you will get an error and the DNS will not be removed. All changes made in the Manage Interface are instant. However, the rest of world will still require at least a day to propagate.

Q:How do you put domains into the same profile?![]()
A:You can manage all your domain in a Grouped Domain Profile. If you have a number of domains with OpenSRS, and want them all to show up in the Domain Management Interface in one place, follow these steps: Domains should only be grouped together if they are owned by the same person or company. 1. Log into your OpenSRS domain management interface, or https://manage.opensrs.net 2. Click on the Manage Profile link 3. Click on "Change Ownership of Domain" 4. Enter in the username and password of the target domain you want to add this domain to 5. Enter the target domain name into Previously registered domain 6. Put a checkmark on Move to existing profile 7. Click on Change Owner You will now see near the top of the screen that you are managing two domain names. If the target domain was already part of a grouped domain profile, you will see all the domains that were in the profile originally, plus the new one you just added. All domains in the profile will now have the same username & password. If anyone gains access to the username/password, they will have access to all domains in the profile and have the ability to change ownership of the domain names. Guard these access credentials carefully!

Q:How can I monitor a transfer in progress?![]()
A:All transfers in progress can be found in "View Orders in Progress". Transfers to OpenSRS go through 3 stages: 1) Pending Owner Approval - Waiting on the Admin contact to confirm the transfer. 2) Awaiting OpenSRS Review - We manually check each transfer to make sure it is valid. This step usually takes one business day. 3) Pending Registry Approval - Sent to the registry. This is where the confirmation process of the current registrar takes over. Unless they specifically reject the transfer, the transfer will complete in 9 days. If a transfer completes, the domain will move to the "Search Domains" list. If it fails, you can find the order in "Reg System Orders" and the reason why it failed will be listed in the Domain Notes section at the bottom of the order.

Q:Does the Web interface require cookies? ![]()
A:Yes. A cookie is information that a Web site puts on your hard disk so that it can remember something about you at a later time. For more information on cookies, please see:http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid14_gci211838,00.html

Q:I can not log in to the RWI. Why?![]()
A:Remember the password is case-sensitive. Usernames are automatically converted to lower case. Please note that the Test and Live passwords can be different. We always copy over the current Test password when we create the Live account. If you can't gain access, contact reseller-support@opensrs.org and we will reset the password and mail it to the address listed in your account. Make sure this info is always up to date!

Q:Will the domain manage interface warn my clients about upcoming renewals?![]()
A:When a registrant logs into the Manage Domain they will be informed whether any of the names in their OpenSRS profile are due to expire within 60 days. The notice will appear at the top of the screen. Further, the manage.cgi can be configured to allow you to offer renewals to your customers directly through your Manage Domain interface. For more information on how to do this, please consult the latest version of our Perl Client Manual

Q:It is an HTTP address! Is it secure? ![]()
A:Yes, it's secure. That HTTP address actually opens an invisible frame to a longer and hard-to-type HTTPS URL. We aliased it to make it easier to remember. It still makes a secure encrypted HTTPS connection between your workstation and our registration server.

Q:How can I send out a domain username/password? ![]()
A:RSPs have the ability to send out the domain username/password to the listed Admin Email contact. In the "Domain Management" section of the Resellers web page, find the domain in question. You can use either the "View Domain" or "Search Domains" link. The link to send the login/password is at the very bottom of the Domain info. It also shows you the address that it will be sent to. ca domains will also have a link to send the CIRA password. Only domain owners have access to this info. Since this is the only way to recover a lost password, please make sure the Admin Email is kept up-to-date. If the admin contact email address is no longer valid, the listed domain owner must send us a signed fax on company letterhead, if possible, requesting that the address be updated. In the fax be sure that they include a copy of their government issued photo ID (Drivers License, Passport etc), the domain name and the new admin contact email address. Please have them fax it to 1-416-531-2516 ATTN: OpenSRS Support For the registrants convience, we have created a pre-made PDF form that can be used as a template. You can find the form at http://rrc.tucows.com/resources/docs/adminemailchange.pdf

Q:Why am I receiving Invalid Nameserver errors?![]()
